Mira Costa’s baseball team fell to Huntington Beach High School with a score of 9-4 at an away game on Friday. Top performance from senior third baseman Matt Beserra kept the team going for seven innings.
The game started with a 3-0 deficit at the top of the second inning. Costa was fighting to keep up and eventually scored a run in the last play. Beserra had four at bats during the game. However the Mustangs fell behind when Huntington scored five times in the fifth inning.
“We played well today,” junior pitcher Jesse Storey said. “We came out and competed against one of the best teams in the nation and sadly we fell short of a win.”
The Mustangs now 12-7 overall, and 2-2 in Bay League, will play La Salle High School tomorrow in a home game. For tomorrow’s game, the team will prepare to take advantage of opportunities, according to Beserra.
“Today’s game was a tough loss but we have to put it behind us and focus on winning league,” Beserra said.
