Freshman Kaitlyn Sciarrino recently created a fashion blog and non profit philanthropy based organization called Kindheartedly in order to “empower young women from the outside, in”.

Sciarrino had the idea for the blog after she had been volunteering at Maryvale Orphanage for 3 years through her National Charity League chapter. Sciarrino decided that she needed to do something to help the girls of Maryvale, so in April 2016, she organized a fundraiser that raised over $10,000 for the orphanage. In Sept. of 2016, she joined a business class which gave her the tools she needed to start her 501c3 business. Currently, she is in the process of launching her website (www.kindheartedly.org).

“Kindheartedly aims to empower power young women from the outside, in, through the contents of our Kind Kits” Sciarrino said.

Sciarrino creates “Kind Kits”, subscription box style care packages containing clothing, personal hygiene products and fashion tips. With the help of volunteers and donors, “Kind Kits” will be assembled and delivered to orphanages and foster care homes around the Los Angeles area monthly.

Kindheartedly accepts donations of clothing, personal hygiene products and funds to help build the “Kind Kits”. Sciarrino decided that her “Kind Kits” needed to include these items, because the girls of Maryvale arrive at the orphanage with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Many girls who reside at Maryvale are victims of domestic and sexual abuse, so Sciarrino thought that clothing, personal hygiene products and fashion tips could help them rebuild their self confidence.

Sciarrino’s “Kindheartedly” is a philanthropy based non-profit organization. She said she has always had a interest for fashion and starting Kindheartedly gave her a perfect opportunity to show her fashion interest as well as helping those in need. Sciarrino posts her outfits daily on her Instagram (@_kindheartedly). Sciarrino also vlogs nightly, where she picks out her outfits and followers give their feedback. Once her blog goes live, she will be posting about a variety of topics including lifestyle, makeup, hair, fitness and DIY.

“I think Kindheartedly is very inspiring and also impressive,” Payton Smith said (one of the kindheartedly instagram followers). “I really admire her for empowering women and I can’t wait to see where this goes.”

Sciarrino hopes that in the future people are able to sponsor a “Kind Kit” online. She also hopes to expand her organization nationally and create her own subscription box line that can be purchased online.

“I hope that Kindheartedly can help young women who have been subjected to horrible circumstances rebuild their self confidence, because everyone deserves to feel comfortable in the skin they’re in.” said Sciarrino.
