Hundreds of fans swarmed to the Sahara Tent at the Coachella Music Festival witness Pennsylvania based rapper, Mac Miller. Despite the hype leading up to the event, spectators did not leave saying “Congratulations”.
Mac Miller is a rapper who is primarily known for his fast pace verses which are combined with rather intricate beats which he often creates. Mac Miller generally had been known to please the crown however coachella was his first public performance of 2017 and he did not impress the audience due to Miller not performing many of his own versus, a lack of energy, and an odd arrangement of songs .
Fans had to bare the heat and arrive at the Coachella music festival during the evening in order to watch Miller’s performance which took place at 7:15 P.M. on April 14th and 21st. Due to the performances noticeable lack of energy, the crowd remained underwhelmed for the majority of the performance.
This video (above) displays Miller’s performance during the event. Although there was quite a large crowd, the performance did not excite many.
Miller opened up his performance with “Cinderella”, a song from his newest album which features artist Ty Dolla $ign. Miller was unable to bring out the featured artist for his performance and the song seemed rather underwhelming and half performed. This caused the crowds interest to stray off slightly from the very beginning of the set.
Despite the nerves which Miller mentioned feeling early in his performance, he verbally attempted to persuade the crowd to dance numerous times. Millers attempts to get the audience more engaged was thoughtful however much of the music seemed to fast to dance to, yet to slow paced to have any sort of substantial mosh pit.
During the middle of his performance Miller performed his single “Dang!” which seemed to be the most well known song amongst the crowd, as many spectators began to sing along and bounce their heads along to the beat.
This positive momentum seemed to have a downward trend until the closing song of the performance which was, “When in Rome”. This was another one of Miller’s classic raw rap songs however the rapping was not done live and Miller merely listened to his own music along with the crowd with the occasional portion of a verse screamed into the microphone. This portion of the performance seemed very rushed and Miller seemed to be out of energy and interest along with the rest of the crowd.
Miller did not have a stellar performance to say the least, however will have a chance at redeeming himself when he leaves California in order to perform at the Soundset festival in Minnesota at the Minnesota Fairgrounds on May 28th.
