Mira Costa’s badminton team fell to Cerritos High School 10-11 on Sunday at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club. Top performers were senior Sam Schwartz and sophomores Lulu Yu and junior Scarlett Luo.
Senior Sam Schwartz and Freshman Eric Mei pulled through with 4 wins, and Sophomore Lulu Yu and junior Scarlett Luo with 2 wins. Then in mixed doubles Costa won 3 games, and to finish off their ten games, we gained another win in boy’s doubles by Sophomore Moose Cohn and Junior Henry Yu.

“In the final game against Cerritos we tried our very best and although we only won two games, we fought for those two,” Schwartz said.
Costa was put under a lot of pressure when the game against Loara was at game point, and the other team was about to win. Ultimately Costa was unable to overcome this obstacle and beat Cerritos.

“Even though we lost, we cheered each other on and we never gave up even when the opponent had the game point,” Mei said.
The Mustangs continue their season with an overall record of 4-2. The Mustangs’ next will be in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), the schedule is unknown.

“Personally I think I played well but I wished I had played both my mixed and my first singles game a little bit better, but I was very proud of my performance in my second singles game” Schwartz said.
