Mira Costa’s baseball team defeated Simi Valley 7-1 at home on Saturday. Top performance from sophomore pitcher Joey Acosta winded up a win for the team.
Costa helped keep Simi Valley scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when their team scored a run. Acosta allowed only four hits during the game and was responsible for five strikeouts. The Mustangs played well offensively in the fifth inning, scoring five runs.
“The team played great,” Acosta said. “We made no errors on defense and capitalized when we had the chance to and were able to push runs across.”
The Mustangs, now 16-7 overall, will play Redondo Union High School in an away game this Tuesday. The team will have to be more consistent with scoring runs according to senior centerfielder CJ Shapiro.
“Today we came out firing after a bad week and that was really good to see,” Shapiro said. “We only had one great inning and we have to work on that before next week’s game.”
