Relay For Life team All Night for the Fight, organized by freshman co-captains Emily Fasano and Sydney Young, raised $6,280, the largest sum for this year’s Manhattan Beach event.

The team originally set the goal of raising $5,000 and worked for weeks to fundraise for the American Cancer Society through contacting and sending donation links to friends, family and community members, Young said.

“I wanted to create a team because many of my friends have participated before, and it sounded very fun,” Fasano said. “I also wanted to do it because I love helping others in need, and I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.”

The team consisted of 32 Mira Costa freshmen. Next year, the captains hope to keep up the same level of dedication along with incorporating different methods of fundraising like bake sales and garage sales, Fasano said.

“Being a leader of All Night For The Fight has been a lot of work, especially because it’s Emily’s and my first year of doing Relay, and we didn’t exactly know what to expect,” Young said. “The reason why I love it so much is because [Relay for Life] is for such a great cause and very social at the same time.”
