The Mira Costa Mustangs boys easily dominated Lawndale Environmental Charter High School in a 5-0 preseason shutout soccer game.
The first goal came about halfway through the first half. Junior Andy Macedo was making a run down the field and crossed the ball. Senior forward Charlie Pitts cut through the middle of the field and put the ball into the back of the net giving Costa a 1-0 lead.
Costa wasn’t able to tack on another goal and went into half leading 1-0. The Mustangs had many chances to take even a bigger lead in the first half, but they missed many chances that were close to the goal.
Costa put in another goal just two minutes into the second half. Macedo moved the ball deep into the left corner and got around the defender. As he maneuvered around the last defender, he shot the ball to far post, and the ball trickled right into the goal.
Lawndale Charter’s defense began to wear down. Mira Costa seized the opportunity, scoring three goals in the last 8 minutes of play. Seniors Augie Diaz, Joe Valenzuela, and D.J. Pepper all scored respectively.
Mira Costa’s next game is Dec. 14. The Mustangs head to Culver City to take on the Centaurs.
