Mira Costa’s baseball team defeated San Dimas High School 7-3 at a home game on Friday in their first playoff game. Top performance from sophomore first baseman Joey Acosta.
Costa kept a steady lead throughout the game, with score of 2-0 in the fourth inning. The team scored three runs at the top of the fifth and two runs in the seventh, with a final score of 7-3. The Mustangs played consistent throughout according to Acosta.
“We played a great game,” Acosta said. “Our defense was stellar the whole game and we made the plays when we needed to. We stayed on them the whole game.”
The Mustangs now 19-7 overall will play against Ayala High School next Tuesday on May 23. They need to keep the energy going in the dugout more according to senior centerfielder CJ Shapiro.
“For our next game we definitely need to work on capitalizing with runners in scoring position,” Shapiro said.
