Mira Costa’s baseball team defeated Ayala High School 3-2 at an away game on Tuesday. Top performance from junior pitcher Jesse Storey winded up a win for Costa.

Costa started the game with a 1-0 lead in the second inning. When Ayala scored in the third and fourth inning, the Mustangs were at a deficit. However they pulled in clutch in the sixth with two runs. Storey kept the opposing team from scoring by striking out three players in three innings.

“We played really solid today,” sophomore second baseman Dylan Dennis said. “We really were tough and got a couple huge hits that gave us the chance to put it away and our pitching and defense carried us from there.”

The Mustangs now 20-7 overall will play Capistrano Valley at a home game on May 26 in the quarterfinals. The team kept within themselves and ended up taking home the win, which is how they should continue playing said senior third baseman Matt Beserra.

“We put up good at bats and scored late in the game but made all the plays which helped contribute to our 3-2 win,” Storey said. “We are just looking forward to competing out on our home field.”
