On Sunday May 7 the Manhattan Hermosa National Charity League chapter held a fancy afternoon tea for the local mothers and daughters involved in this organization. Maddie Driscol, Maya Fabrizio, and Kelly Sussman wore dresses and heals appropriate for the dress code of this occasion.
While taking place at the Manhattan Beach Country Club, the purpose of this event is to acknowledge the hours of philanthropy demonstrated by the many Mira Costa students and more who are in this charity league. Over two hundred guests were seated at this well planned tradition
Each year a Tea Committee is elected to plan and host the event. Carol Adler and Lori Condon take part in being the committee chairs as well as Leslie and Sam Bell who help wrap tea cups donated by every mother and daughter for someone else’s use.
A big part of this Annual event is the distinct theme it portrays. An Asian style inspired the decorations and menu of the tea by including vintage fans, dumplings, lanterns, and several other parts of the decor.
Before the actual Tea and biscuits are served, several activities are displayed for the many guests who appear like photos, lemonade and other drinks, and games. Gaby and her mom enjoyed the complimentary professional photos taken of every mother and daughter pair.
Not just a way to get involved in your community, this organization allows for many community members to get to know each more especially at this event. Conversation cards played the role of an “ice breaker” for your table.
The courses of the tea consists scones followed by many kinds of sandwiches and dessert. Hannah Bergin and Annalise Aranson enjoyed the prefixed and brewed the tea of their choice in the provided tea cups.
Inspirational Speakers are vital throughout the award ceremony. The inspiration of the event was lead by Lauren Davis who gave an empowering speech on how NCL affected her and her relationship with her mom and other achievements she’s achieved like her ambition to help prevent of concussions.
Different awards are distributed out according to the number of hours which helps these students better their college applications and strive to achieve many hours of philanthropy. Emma Fukunaga receives the “Hourglass Award” for having one hundred hours of combined service hours.
These girls with other peers and community members participate in the charities scattered across the South Bay. Costa student,Hailey Stazcow, got the “Modeletet Award” for showing exceptional character during NCL meetings.
