The Mira Costa Associated Student Body hosted its third blood drive of the year in the Fisher Gymnasium on Wednesday, alongside the University of California, Los Angeles Blood and Platelet center.
In order to participate, donors were required to be at least 16 years of age, have normal iron levels, and weigh at least 110 pounds. Approximately 200 students, parents and Costa staff members participated in the blood drive and donated 111 pints of blood, ASB adviser Lisa Claypoole said.
“We were pleased with how many students donated blood,” ASB President Duke Mahr said. “It’s rewarding to know we’re helping other out.
Mira Costa’s student body was very consistent in participating in school wide activities whether it was a sports tournament, or a blood drive. There were always students that felt the need to help others, and this blood drive was just one more way in which they could. (47)
“Each blood drive, we get an average of 150 students willing to donate. With each student giving close to a pint and this happening 3 times a year, we end up collecting lots of blood.” said ASB rep Parker Lynch.
