In the first official game of the football season on Thursday Aug. 31, Costa played with heart, but eventually fell short to the St. Francis Knights by a score of 48-21.
On a balmy night in Pasadena Costa they dropped their first game, but had some hot key performances by junior quarterback Reed Vabrey throwing for 2 touchdowns, and senior Vashon Hill scoring 1 running touchdown. It was a one score game for Costa at half, but the knights pulled away early in the 3rd.
“Tough loss for the team, but we’ll for sure be ready for La Serna next week,” said sophomore running back Jackson Fischer.
The Mustangs, now (0-1) on the season, move on to Whitter next Friday to play the La Serna Lancers, a team who barely edged out Costa in a 32-28 win last year.
“We have a lot of kids who play both ways, but once we condition and get ourselves in better shape we will be fine for La Serna next week,” said Assistant Coach Cameron Chow
