The Mira Costa girls volleyball team played their first home game of the season on Aug. 31 against Edison High School and won 3-1. Costa came out on top because of its high energy and enthusiasm throughout the match.
Costa started the match with high intensity levels leading them to win the first set 25-18. Costa’s top performers were Kate Reilly with strong blocks and Jenny Jenks with big serves which made it difficult for Edison to return anything. Jenks said we beat Edison in our out of system defense, offense and serve intensity.
“I think our biggest strength was our unconditional support from the players and staying positive the whole time,” Jenks said.
The Mustangs will take on Marymount next Tuesday at 5:45 at Marymount high school. Costa’s overall record is 1-0. Marymount’s current overall record is 0-1. Reilly said next week we play Marymount, who has very good pin hitters so the team is going to work on taking away seams when blocking.
“I plan to focus on my middle back defense for next week’s game and picking up balls that are hit off the block,” Reilly said.
