The Mira Costa girls volleyball team placed 7th in the Silver Division at the Durango Fall Classic Tournament last Saturday in Las Vegas. The Mustang’s top performer included junior setter and opposite Rochelle Scott because of her powerful sets throughout the entire tournament that made Costa an offensive threat.
The Mustangs came out strong in the beginning of the tournament placing 1st in their pool winning 6 sets. Costa then entered the qualifying rounds and fell to Kamehameha, 2-0. Junior Sequoia Wattles said, as a team they had amazing chemistry on the court and that everyone supported each other.
“This weekend our strengths were our serving and defense,” said Wattles. “I think we can improve overall on letting go of our mistakes and bad plays not letting them affect us later in the match.”
The Mira Costa girls volleyball team’s overall record is 1-2 and will take on Peninsula high school at home on Tuesday in their first Bay League match of the season. Junior Amanda McDonald said the team hopes to spend more time together to bond before Tuesday’s match.
“We are going to spend more time focusing on our technical abilities and skill rather than working on restorative mind exercises,” said McDonald.
