The Mira Costa boys basketball team competed in the Redondo Beach Seahawk’s Classic tournament from Dec. 27 to Dec. 30. The Mustangs managed to win their first round game against Servite, but stopped there with three consecutive losses.
Costa beat Anaheim’s Servite High School in the first round of the tournament. The Mustangs took the lead from the Friars towards the end of the game, finishing with a score of 72-63. The team then advanced to play Bishop Montgomery, whom they were unable to defeat. Costa lost to Bishop with a score of 70-64 in the second round.
The Mustangs continued their losing streak in the next two games. They lost to Cleveland High School with a score of 65-59. The host Seahawks beat the Mustangs with a final score of 66-54. In the end, Costa’s tournament record was 1-3.
Throughout the tournament, Costa’s greatest contributions came from seniors Elliot Ozer and Thomas Johnson. Both seniors were consistent in their scoring and rebounding.
Mira Costa’s record now stands at 10-11. The team will play their first game of the new year at home against Irvine’s University High School on Jan. 4.
