Mira Costa’s Comedy Sportz team held auditions on Sept. 7 for students who wanted to be part of the program and 12 new students made the team.
Comedy Sportz is a student run program that performs improv at matches throughout the school year. A total of 55 students from all grade levels attended the tryouts.
“I am so excited to be on a team that just spreads laughter and positivity,” sophomore Clare Arnold said.
The Comedy Sportz team has approximately 25 members during the school year. Before tryouts, there were 15 students on the team, but 12 of them had to reaudition, leaving approximately 10 spots open for new members.
“Overall, we want a team of 25 people, but that number can change depending on how many people we like,” Comedy Sportz Manager Jack Drinker said.
According to Drinker, Comedy Sportz auditions were a huge success because students from all grade levels auditioned, giving the team a variety of new students to select for the team.
“It should be nice to see both returning and fresh faces with us,” Comedy Sportz member and junior Carson Billingsley said. “It’s looking to be an exciting year!”
The first Comedy Sportz match of this year will be on Oct. 6 at 7 pm in the Mira Costa small theater against El Segundo High School.
“I’m sure we can build a solid family from our new team and have a super fun year,” Billingsley said.
