Jaw dropping action and hysterical comedy had audiences in the theatre applauding after seeing “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.”
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, the movie follows a face paced tempo similar to some of Vaughn’s more popular movies such as, “X-Men: First Class” and “Kick-Ass”. The movie is extremely entertaining and a soon to be classic.
The movie was a sequel to the enormously popular movie “Kingsman” which displayed the tale of a British secret agent named Gary “Eggsy” Unwin, played by Taron Egerton. In the original film, Eggsy is faced with the challenge of saving the world from an evil villain with terrifying motives.
The sequel follows suite and Eggsy is once again faced with the task of saving humanity after a crazy drug kingpin, Mrs. Poppy, played by Julianne Moore has infected all of the world’s drug users with a dangerous disease. Mrs. Poppy also killed the majority of Eggsy’s fellow operatives so the Kingsman must team up with an American secret service group called the Statesman. The two groups clash heads upon first meeting but realize they must work in unison to fight for the common good.
There is extremely exciting and suspenseful action from the first scene until the credits. The opening scene includes a car chase which was masterfully shot and had the audience on the edge of their seat.
The film’s action is extremely violent but manages to spare the gore and blood, so it appears to be more light hearted and humorous than disturbing. The film also includes very timely comedic relief, primarily from Elton John, one of Mrs. Poppy’s prisoners.
In the film, Eggsy seems to have matured a bit, yet still contains two sides: his gangster street side and the side of him which is a proper English Kingsman. Through both sides, Eggsy expresses his emotions and love for his girlfriend Princess Tilde, played by Hanna Alstrom.
Colin Firth’s character, Harry Hart who was presumed dead after the original “Kingsman” is reintroduced and plays a vital role in the film. Once Eggsy’s Teacher, Harry seems to be learning many lessons from Eggsy throughout the film, portraying the classic “student becomes the master” scenario which adds a charming sentimental effect to the film.
Eagerton seems to have honed in his acting skills in order to perfect this role. Although he could be considered inexperienced to some of his costars such as Jeff Bridges, Eagerton seemed to steal the show, as all scenes seemed to revolve around him.
The film is very entertaining and features great amounts of action and comedy. The plot appears to be rather unbelievable, but similarly to the original film, the cast’s great acting makes the movie fit perfectly into its own class.
“Kingsman”: The Golden Circle” is rated R and is playing in theatres everywhere.
