Costa’s Associated Student Body hosted its first annual Bring a Buddy event, which introduced future Costa students to Costa on Sept. 13 in the cafeteria.
Current Costa students invited future students, mostly late elementary or middle school students, to the event in order to introduce future students to Costa. Tickets were free for every pair that attended.
“We wanted future Costa students to come so that they can get involved with Costa and so that they’re more comfortable on campus.” Sophomore class President Mary Clare Powell said.
ASB supervisor and Activities Director Lisa Claypoole said that going into this event ASB was ready to try something new. ASB originally planned the event to be on Sept. 7th, but the event was pushed back due to other events occupying the cafeteria, Claypoole said.
“The Bring a Buddy event was originally planned to be on the seventh, but due to the occupation of the cafeteria from the Hurricane Harvey relief program, we decided against it.” Claypoole said. “But, it worked out putting it on the thirteenth, so there was no conflict in postponing the event.”
During the event, ASB students and their buddies, along with other Costa students and their buddies, enjoyed an afternoon of bouncy houses, cotton candy, games, popcorn and a dunk tank.
“I’ve a lot of great things about Costa.” current seventh grader at MBMS Robby Naylor said. “The academics and sports are great, and it’s a big campus, so I will be able to make new friends. I feel like there are so many new chances waiting for me at Costa, and now I’m really excited to go to school here in a couple years.”
