Mira Costa’s boys cross country sweepstakes team came out fifth overall at the Desert Twilight race on Friday, September 29th in Casa Grande, Arizona. The top performer was varsity senior, Xavier Court who ran the 5k in an astounding 15:09 time coming in 7th place.
Costa’s girls sweepstakes team placed eighth out of 28 teams with Brooke Inouye leading the pack in 24th place. Boys large school varsity team coming fourth with Michael Elias leading with 16th place. Girls large school varsity placed 2nd with Anna Graves leading in 12th place.
“I was thrilled to see how well our team performed, as we had quite a shaky start to the season, and that I was able to set one of my personal bests for the 5k,” Court said.
The cross country team will participate in will be the Hometown 10k in Manhattan Beach on Saturday, October 7th. The students will participate, being a friendly competition against the locals, celebrating the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fairs’ 45th birthday.
“Our next upcoming meet will be at our home, Manhattan Beach which is different because we usually race at the Polliwog course,” said Court. “This will be good training for Bay League which we are hoping to finish with at least second place if not first.”
