Mira Costa boys beach volleyball defeated Wildwood High School 3-0 in the first round of playoffs at Dockweiler Beach on October 4. The Mustangs’ top seeded teams were Bobby Barkley and Dane Johnson, Max Cajuste and Jack Walmer, Thomas Kretschmer and Sam Collins.

Junior Thomas Kretschmer and sophomore Sam Collins only allowed their opponent to score one point in the first set and beat the Wolves in the second set 21-5. Both players were very focused and had great defense as well as smart offensive shots said Coach Avery.

“For the upcoming round of playoffs we need to be consistent,” junior Thomas Kretschmer said. “If we play with the same energy every point and can side out every time, we will win IBVL.”

The Mustangs are now 25-5 and their playoff record is 3-0 and Costa will be competing in the next round of playoffs against Santa Monica on Saturday, October 7 at Dockweiler Beach. Coach Avery is excited for what’s to come and believes that they have a strong team to get the task done.

“Our teams played very well today and it was a lot of fun to watch, but we have to get ready for the very competitive teams ahead in the playoffs because it will not be easy at all,” Coach Avery said.
