The Mira Costa Mustangs easily defeated the Beverly Hills Normans on Jan. 5 with a score 4-0. This was their last preseason home game.
Though the Beverly Hills team played with high energy, the Mustangs started a scoring streak that could not be stopped. Senior Augie Diaz led the Mustangs with the first goal of the game. A great corner kick from senior Mac McCarthy sent the ball to the back post, where Diaz converted it into a goal.
The Mustangs continued to attack on offense, and took more shots than the defenders anticipated. Diaz scored two more goals back-to-back early in the second half.
Additionally, senior Charlie Pitts orchestrated the offense with grace as he broke through the defenders. He put up many shots and caused deflections.
Junior Indheca Wycoff rounded out the strong offensive performance by adding the fourth and final goal of the game.
The Mustangs enter the regular season with a record of 7-1-2. Their first game is on Jan. 11 at home, versus the West Torrance Warriors.
