After the long awaited return of indie artist, King Krule, he delivered with nothing less than a stellar new album, The Ooz. The album intrigues listeners with a foreign and psychedelic experience through his unique incorporation of synthesized vocals and peculiar samples.=
England based artist, King Krule, debuted in 2010 with his first work, U.F.O.W.A.V.E, and since has released numerous EPs and studio albums. Krule is most known for his last album, A New Place 2 Drown, which was accompanied by a short film and a collection of short poems at the time of its release.
Krule’s newest release, The Ooz, was released on October 13 through indie label, True Panther Records. The album was produced by british producer, Dilip Harris, who is most known for his work with Krule’s earlier music.
The album opens with the track, “Biscuit Town”, which incorporates a rhythmic poetic style of vocals and synthesized hip hop beat. The distinct combination of the two characteristics provides the listener with a relaxing and hypnotizing opening to the album.
Although Krule is known for his slow and downbeat pace of music, he displays his ability to keep tracks upbeat and interesting. On the tracks, “Dum Surfer”, and “Emergency Blimp”, he combines swift drum patterns and raspy guitar riffs. The change of pace on the album keeps the listener engaged and yields a more enjoyable listen.
The Ooz reminds listeners of Krule’s ability to incorporate odd samples and effects into his music. These samples are most notable on the tracks, “Slush Puppy”, and “Bermondsey Bosom (Left)”, as he uses samples of christmas styled jingle bells and random speeches. Krule’s ability to incorporate these odd yet enjoyable samples causes his music to stand out compared to other contemporary works.
Another notable but suprising aspect of the album is the extended runtime, the album tops out with a total of 19 tracks. The addition of so many tracks allows the listener to further enjoy Krule’s music and settle in to a relaxed state.
Overall, The Ooz, by King Krule impresses with a superb new release. The album is a pleasing listen due to the use of various samples, a rhythmic style of vocals, and features an extended track list.
King Krule’s newest album, The Ooz, was released on October 13 and is available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music. The album was also limitedly released for purchase on vinyl.
