Mira Costa’s girls basketball team fell short to El Rancho, 47-32 on Thursday, November 30 in the Mark Keppel Gary Houston Invitational Tournament at El Rancho High School.

The Mustangs offense started out slow in the first quarter and fell 18-10, but in the next three quarters, their shots began to go in. Costa was unable to catch up, but their defense was consistent and aggressive to hold El Rancho to 47 points.

“Even though we were down at halftime by 11 points,” sophomore Skylar Herdman said. “We came back into the 3rd quarter very strong and aggressive ready to fight and stay in the game.”

Costa’s record is now 1-3 overall, and they will play on Saturday, December 2 against another team in the tournament. It is very early in the season and the team is looking to improve on boxing out as well as other crucial skills for their upcoming games according to senior Hayley Herdman.

“To prepare for the next game, we are going to have to work on talking more on defense, as well as improving on boxing out,” Hayley Herdman said.
