The Mira Costa Boys Basketball Team was defeated by the West Torrance Warriors on Saturday, Dec. 2nd at home. Although Costa played well, they weren’t able to successfully defend against the Warriors offense and lost 69-59. Tommy Waller was a top performer for the Mustangs, being able to beat his defender and convert on points in the paint throughout the game.
The Warriors took an early lead over the Mustangs, ending the first quarter 15-11. The Mustangs were able to mount a comeback in the third quarter to end the third with a score of 44-41. This lead was short-lived, with the Warriors taking control in the fourth, and triumphing over the Mustangs in a 69-59 win.
“In the first half, we came out a little slow and struggled to score because our shots just weren’t falling. We made a nice run in the second half and forced some turnovers and our bench started getting in the game more. Shots started to fall, and we took the lead at one point,” sophomore Max McCalla said.
Costa will travel to Corona Del Mar high school to play in the Beach Bash Varsity Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 5th against Costa Mesa High School. The Mustangs are looking for a win in this game to give them a 3-2 season record.
“To win the next game we won’t think about it. We will go out there and give it every ounce, even if we aren’t making shots,” junior Carson Carrey said.
