Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Morningside by 41 points on Jan. 16 at Morningside High School with a score of 66-25. The top performer of the game was sophomore Skylar Herdman who was a strong defender helping Costa hold the Monarchs to under 30 points.
The Mustangs only allowed the Monarchs to score 5 points in the first quarter because of their tough defense. Costa also executed plays, scoring 22 points in the first quarter. Costa did not let up, ending the half with 35 points and going on to score another 31 points in the third and fourth quarters of the game.
“We did a great job tonight but we need to work on taking care of the ball more and also cutting down the turnovers,” senior Kelli Toyooka said.
Mira Costa girls basketball is now 9-9 overall and 2-1 in Bay League, their next opponent is Inglewood on Friday Jan. 19th at 6:00 on the Mustangs home court. The Mustangs want to continue to work hard and battle in each and every game according to sophomore Kim Waller.
“I think that we work so hard in the games and never give up no matter the score and places we can improve on is boxing out and getting more rebounds,” Waller said.
