The Mira Costa girls varsity soccer team defeated Inglewood High School, 6-0, on Jan. 19 at Inglewood High school. The game’s top performers were seniors Gabby Baker and Jamie Averch, who both played forward for the first time during this season and scored for the first time this season as well, according to junior midfielder Jojo Hoffman.
The Mustangs were strong throughout the game as they did not allow Inglewood to score during both the first and second half. Along with Averch and Baker, freshman Rachel Fox and junior Olivia Tuffli both scored goals for the Mustangs to secure their win.
“Everyone [was a top performer] because a lot of people got the chance to play forward and have shots,” Hoffman said. “We worked together as a unit and came out with a win.”
The Mustangs, now 12-2 overall, will face off against Redondo Union High School on Jan. 23 at home. Despite their success, the Mustangs need to work on their communication on the field, according to Hoffman.
“I think for us it was a pretty easy game so we played around with positions,” junior midfielder Kayla Brunick said. “[The changes in positions were] very good for us to continue on building as a team.”
