Mira Costa’s Associated Student Body hosted its third Club Day of the school year at lunch on Jan. 17 in the Mustang Mall, giving Costa clubs and organizations the opportunity to raise money by selling food and beverages to students.
Club Day happens quarterly in order to keep Costa clubs sufficiently funded, Junior Class Treasurer Max Haber said. Club leaders are able to choose to use the money however their club sees fit, ASB Club Coordinator and junior Jojo Hoffman said.
“[Club Day] benefits clubs that we are able to make profit to use for whatever is needed, being donations or supplies,” Disaster Relief Club president and sophomore Dylan Patel said. “My club, the Disaster Relief Club, will use the profits to donate directly to Red Cross who will then take that money to help with whatever disaster they need to.”
Twenty-seven booths sold food, including Beckers cookies and Taco Bell tacos sold by the VEX Robotics and South Bay Food Initiative clubs, respectively. The final club day of the school year will be held on March 7 in the Mustang Mall.
“Club Day is a nice way to fundraise for clubs while simultaneously giving students something new and enjoyable,” ASB historian and senior Anna Harntaweethong said.
