Mira Costa’s wrestling team competed at a team-dual meet at Peninsula High School on Jan. 24. With a total of 8 forfeits, the team was able to easily defeat Peninsula 67-12. Top wrestlers included seniors Hanul Kim and Jamie Krigsman, who pinned their opponents.
Kim wrestled in the 170 lbs. weight division, defeating opponent Diego Sheng 3-0. Kim took no points during the first period but later gained the upper hand with an escape and a near fall. Krigsman wrestled in the 184 lbs. weight division and defeated his opponent with a pin in the 3rd period.
“My match went really well, it was a battle at first but I pushed through and it paid off,” Krigsman said. “The team is doing amazing and we are ready to handle anything that is thrown our way.”
The team will compete next at a dual meet against Redondo High School on Jan. 30. Following that, the team will participate in the long-awaited CIF dual championships on February 3rd.
“We are already strategizing how we want to approach each match at CIF and we have been training hard,” Coach Jimmy Chaney said. “We are ready to give it 100%. I believe we will be ready to go.”
