The Mira Costa boys soccer team defeated Palos Verdes high school 2-1 on Jan. 30 at home. Senior forward captain Robert Cook and senior defender Tanner Hong had outstanding performances for their assists and goals that strengthened Costa’s offense.
The Mustangs defeated Palos Verdes again because of their intense offensive pressure that allowed the team to score two goals. Hong and Cook both secured Costa’s win when Hong played a ball across for Cook to finish, ending the match 2-1, Costa.
“I think our biggest strength this season is our attack,” junior midfielder Pedro Rodriguez-Borlado said. “We have the pace and the strength to score and we have a lot of talented players that can play in an attacking position.”
The Mustangs are currently 11-4-2 overall and 5-2 in Bay League. In the next match, the team will face Morningside high school at home on Friday, Feb. 2.
“I really like being on the boys soccer team because I can play soccer with my friends and have fun on and off the pitch,” Rodriguez-Borlado.
