Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Palos Verdes by a deficit of 14 points on Jan. 30 on the Mustangs home court with a score of 49-35. The top performer included senior Kira Escovar who hustled on every play and was aggressive on defense according to sophomore Kim Waller.
They executed their offensive plays and had a strong defense only allowing Palos Verdes 35 points. Costa’s win tonight will most likely lead them to a second place finish in the Bay League which is what they are striving for right now said Escovar.
“PV brings their hustle in every game and their aggressiveness on offense and defense always brings a challenge but we were able to box out which led to a nice win,” Escovar said.
Costa is now 13-11 overall and 5-2 in Bay League and their next opponent is Morningside on Feb. 2 on the Mustangs home court. Costa wants to work on rebounding more consistently and contest more shots according to Waller.
“I think that in the next game we should contest more shots and box out even more to secure the rebound,” Waller said.
