Mira Costa Boys Basketball team defeated the Palos Verdes Sea Kings 63-51 in a home game on Jan 30th. Due to a second half scoring swing, the Mustangs were able to triumph over the Sea Kings.
Both Costa and Palos Verdes started the game out strong by scoring off threes and points in transition. The score was locked up at 29-29 at halftime with both teams fighting for the lead. Costa kept up their scoring in the second half as well as playing good defense. The Mustangs didn’t let the Sea Kings back into the game late in the fourth and ended the game victorious by a score of 63-51.
“We played our butts off. We gotta keep fighting and letting it fly,” junior Carson Carrey said.
Costa now 11-12 on the season and 4-3 overall will face the Morningside Monarchs on, Feb 2 at home. Costa will be looking for another win late in the season to boost their record.
“We thought we could fast break on them a little bit in the first half, but our shots were not falling. In the second we started to make some shots and pulled away,” sophomore Max McCalla said.
