Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Morningside by a deficit of 33 points on Feb. 2 on the Mustangs home court with a score of 64-31. The top performer included senior Hayley Herdman who executed a solid defense and led the team with scoring.

The Mustangs started out very strong due to their aggressive defense and also executing their offensive plays. The team scored 23 points in just 8 minutes and only allowed the Monarchs 9 points within the first quarter. Costa kept the pressure on Morningside the entire game and continued to get many offensive rebounds.

“Our strengths were our determination and that allowed us to continue to fight through the whole game no matter what came our way,” sophomore Kim Waller said.

Costa is now 14-11 overall and 6-2 in Bay League and will be facing off against Inglewood on Feb. 6 at Inglewood High School. Costa is looking to limit turnovers in the upcoming games.

“I really hope our team will have a great game against our rival Redondo and also hope for great success in the CIF playoffs that are coming up soon,” Waller said.
