The Mira Costa boys soccer team defeated Santiago high school 3-1, at home on, Feb. 21 in the second round of the California Interscholastic Federation playoffs. The top performers of the match included senior forward and captain Robert Cook for two goals and an assist.

Two goals from Cook and one from senior midfielder Michael Antich boosted Costa into the lead. The Mustangs did forfeit a goal with Cook dropping into the center back position to make Costa’s defense nearly impenetrable which led Costa to a 3-1 victory.

“Our goalkeeper Andrew Fasano is the best player in the world,” senior defender Brad Hofmeister said. “On defense we did really well and only held them to one goal.”

The Mustangs are currently 17-4-2 overall and will play Sunny Hills high school in the quarter finals of the California Interscholastic Federation playoffs at Sunny Hills high school.

“We want to practice our defensive and offensive plays and set pieces to improve for the next game,” senior midfielder Will Zhou said.
