The Mira Costa boys lacrosse team was defeated by the Palos Verdes Sea Kings, 13-4, at Palos Verdes High School on Mar. 2. The top performer of the game included junior attacker Connor Barnes for his two goals to help lead Costa’s offense.
To begin the game, Palos Verdes took the lead, and executed offensively very well. The Mustangs struggled to defend the opposing team and couldn’t win their face offs. Along with Barnes’s two goals, junior attacker Josh Maruyama scored two separate goals as well.
“We had a very tough game against Palos Verdes in the rain on Friday,” sophomore Dane Weber said. “This is probably our hardest game of the year and we started off very slow and dug ourselves a hole that we just couldn’t come out of.”
The Mustangs are now 1-1 overall and will next face off against Culver City High School at home on Mar. 6.
“We are only two games into the regular season so we have a lot of room to improve,” Weber said. “Possession with the ball is definitely going to be very important this season in order to win.”
