The Mira Costa Badminton team was defeated by Cerritos High School 11-10 on Mar. 6 at an away game. Top performers of the day included senior Scarlett Luo and junior Lulu Yu for winning all of their girls singles games.
Mixed doubles pair Yu and Moose Cohn routed the Dons 21-16 and 22-20, with duo Luo and Eric Mei contributing to the early lead 21-19. In boys singles, Mei put off a solid play to go undefeated in all of his games.
“Our game against Cerritos was really strong start to our season,” Yu said. “Although we lost by only a couple points in our tie-breaking game, everyone tried their best and many of our matches were very competitive.”
The Mustangs are currently 0-1 overall and will next compete against other schools including Arcadia and Loara High School in a home tournament on Mar.10 at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club.
“Our performance today was great and I look forward to how we will improve this season,” senior Audrey Mei said. “We will make the best of our second tournament of the season.”
