In their first Bay League match of the year the Mustangs shredded the North Torrance Saxons, winning by a final score of 190-231.
The match took place on Wednesday at Chester Washington Golf Course. The Mustangs were led by junior Max Huggins who shot a 36 and senior Jack Major who posted a score of 37.
“We played a lot of rounds at Chester leading up to the match,” Major said. “We just went out there and performed like we did in practice.”
The two teams played nine competitive holes, but ultimately the Saxons proved to be no match for the Mustangs.
“We were the better team on Tuesday because we stuck to our program,” Major said.
Despite posting decent scores, the Mustangs were forced to deal with difficult conditions throughout the day. Still, the Mustangs battled through en route to a blowout victory.
“The course maintenance wasn’t the best as they had to continually fix the greens, which makes it much more difficult than normal,” Huggins said.
The Mustangs win was their first in Bay League and improved their record to 4-0 start to the year. They will play next never.
“As long as we keep practicing our fundamentals and working on our consistency it will be a great season,” Huggins said.
