The Mira Costa boys volleyball team fell short to Newport Harbor 3-1 on Wednesday, April 25 at Newport Harbor High School. The top performer of the match included junior libero Lauch Farris who led the team with digs and his consistent serving.

Newport Harbor started out very strong in the first and second sets with first ball sideouts and multiple blocks. The Mustangs were unable to stop the Sailors, but Costa did come back and win the third set with kills from senior outside Dane Johnson and senior opposite Bobby Barkley. In the fourth set, Newport Harbor pulled out a win, leading to a Sailor’s win, 3-1.

“We kept fighting each point throughout the match, even when we weren’t at our best,” sophomore setter Jack Walmer said.

The Mustangs’ overall record is now 8-2, Bay League 6-1, their next opponent is Morningside on Thursday, March 26 at home. The Mustangs are currently tied with Palos Verdes High School in the Bay League and will need to win their upcoming games to stay in this position.

“I’m really excited for cif, if we can pass, serve and block well, we will win,” junior outside Thomas Kretschmer said.
