Boys Tennis Overcomes Redondo 14-4

The Mira Costa boys tennis team defeated Redondo Union High School, after winning 14-4 on April 30 at Redondo Union.  The top performers of the match included seniors Shant Samuelian and Evan Fortier for winning all of their sets.

Samuelian and Fortier won 6-0, 6-2, and 6-3.  Another doubles pair, including seniors Ron Mizutani and Jon Scalabrini, won one set 6-1.  On the singles side, sophomore Tim Dzhurinskiy won two sets 6-3 and 6-0. Junior Matthew Poh won his sets 6-4, 6-0, and 6-0.

“Our greatest strength is that we have no weaknesses,” senior Ben Chromanski said.

The Mustangs finished with a 19-1 record overall and placed first in Bay League with a score of 9-1.  The Mustangs will now begin the first round of CIF on May 9.

“It feels great to be on top as it is the first time we have been in this position,” Chromanski said.
