Mira Costa’s Advanced Women’s Chorale attended the Bloomington Choir Festival on Wednesday April 11 at Bloomington High School in Bloomington, CA.
The Advanced Women Chorale features junior and senior girls in the choir. Costa scored nearly perfect at the event and received a superior rating which is the highest award a choir can receive, junior Advanced Women Chorale member Amanda Costley said said.
“Our choir performed our songs the best we ever have,” Costley said. “I believe we gave a memorable performance to the judges and audience.”
The choirs prepare at home and at school for months before their performances, according to Costley. They begin by piecing on the large parts of the songs together before focusing on the smaller aspects of the music.
“For concerts we prepare months in advance everyday in class and at home,” Costley said. “We start by sight reading the piece. By the end, we focus on smaller aspects of the music such as diction and dynamics to get it concert and performance ready.”
The songs performed were chosen by choir director Michael Hayden. The choirs still have many concerts and festivals left in this school year such as their performance at Disneyland’s Music in the Parks festival and their Spring Concert on June 8 at Costa.
“I am really excited for our spring concert because we have been sounding so amazing,” junior Advanced Women’s Chorale member Ally Doyle said. “I’m also looking forward to listening to the other choirs sing as I’ve heard that they’ve been sounding great as well.”
