Costa baseball overcame the crosstown rival, the Redondo Union Seahawks in a comeback 8-2 victory, on Tuesday May 8th at Mira Costa High School. The Mustangs’ top performer was senior first baseman, Joey Acosta for his grand slam to secure Costa’s victory.
Costa began the game slow going down 0-2 in the first inning. Costa battled back, with a 4 run inning in the 5th making the score 4-2. Costa’s defense performed flawlessly for the rest of the game, and their offense produced as well, with a 6th inning grand slam from senior Joey Acosta to secure the game.
“We battled and worked the counts in every at bat, which eventually wore their pitcher out,” Acosta said.
The Mustangs are now 27-2 overall and 9-0 in league. Costa will face the Seahawks again on Thursday, May 10th in their final game of Bay League. Costa is looking to finish off their season with a perfect Bay League record.
“We also took advantage of some of their mistakes and we trusted our coaches and just stuck to our game plan,” Acosta said.
