The Mira Costa boys volleyball team defeated Arnold Beckman High School 3-1 on Thursday, May 10 at Arnold Beckman High School in the second round of CIF playoffs. The top performer of the match included sophomore setter Jack Walmer who set up the Mustangs offense and had multiple critical digs throughout the match.
Senior outsides Dane Johnson and Max Cajuste came out strong with a variety of kills and aces leading the Mustangs to win two sets. In the fourth set, Costa had multiple blocks from junior middle blocker Adam Sevier and closed out Arnold Beckman 3-1.
“We were able to side out fast and consistently, which I hope to keep throughout the CIF playoffs,” Walmer said.
The Mustangs’ overall record is now 11-3, Bay League 7-1. Their next opponent will be against South Torrance High School on Saturday, May 12. The Mustangs will be advancing to the quarterfinals and are 3 rounds away from a CIF title.
“I believe that we need to improve some areas in serve recieve and we need to get more kills to be successful in the quarterfinals,” sophomore outside Sam Collins said.
