The Mira Costa Orchestra held its annual Pops concert on June 5th in the auditorium.
This concert demonstrated the students’ ability to perform modern day pop hits. They played songs including “Toxic” by Britney Spears, “At Last” by Etta James, “The Lion King” theme song and the “Back to the Future” theme song.
“We have worked really hard in trying to perfect all the songs and are excited to see how the Pops concert goes,” sophomore Jasmine Pusateri said. “I think it’s been really cool getting to learn new techniques and rhythms, especially to songs that I have heard since I was little.”
The concert featured performances from the three Mira Costa orchestras: Philharmonic, Symphony, and Chamber Orchestras. The orchestra students rehearsed daily for weeks during class and on their own time in order to prepare for this end-of-the-year concert.
“The concert had a great turn out and many people in the community were able to come and see us perform,” sophomore Carmen Mel said. “Orchestra is a class that teaches you patience and creativity, by allowing you to play not just notes on a page, but actual music.
Each Orchestra played three to four songs and the musicians themselves chose many of the songs that were played.
“All of us in the orchestra have put a lot of time into these songs and it was really fun to see everyone come out and support,” violinist in Philharmonic Orchestra and sophomore William Stevens said.
This was a big concert for the departing seniors, as it was their last performance with the Mira Costa Orchestra, Park said.
“It was nice to have a big end of the year concert with all the Mira Costa Orchestras and get one last time to play with fellow students before I go to college this summer,” senior Jake Nicosia said.
