“Solo: A Star Wars Story” offers an action-packed experience for newer fans but lacks the visionary detail and depth of a typical Star Wars film.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is not able to uphold the reputation of the Star Wars franchise. Although the film utilizes its plot-oriented cinematic details and allusions to the original trilogy, it inevitably fails to compensate for the choppy directing as well as the weak character and plot development.
Ron Howard directed “Solo: A Star Wars Story” after the film’s original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, were fired due to alleged cinematic inexperience. Lawerence and Johnathan Kasdan wrote the script and Disney is currently planning to make two more movies following the plot of Han Solo’s origin.
The movie focuses on the origin story of the beloved Star Wars character Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich. The film also features Emilia Clarke, who played Qi’ra, Donald Glover, who played Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson, who played Beckett and Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos.
The film’s plot succeeds in adding significant details to the Star Wars franchise. The cinematic details in the film resonate with strong visual representation, which strengthen the movie as a whole. By adding this layer of storytelling to “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Star Wars fans are able to appreciate the details of Han’s origin story, which contributes to making the plot more interesting for viewers in the theater.
Another positive aspect of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is the allusion that refers to Han’s transformation in the original Star Wars franchise. These allusions foreshadow the character Han would become in the original Star Wars trilogy by showing a glimpse of self-independence and tenacity within his personality. The element contributes to retroactively building Han Solo into the character that fans adore in the original Star Wars franchise.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” contains choppy directing due to a prior lack of organization from Lord and Miller’s original directorial skills. As a result of this disorganization, scenes that are intended to be humorous fall short, major characters become insignificant to audiences and plot twists are predictable and boring. This chaotic aspect of the film makes “Solo: A Star Wars Story” a directorial failure that disappoints viewers.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” features poor development of Han’s character and the plot surrounding his origins. Due to the inadequate script, relationships between characters seem ingenuine and Ehrenreich’s portrayal of Han Solo is inadequate to viewers.
“Solo: A Star Wars” ultimately serves as a letdown for the cinematic legacy of the Star Wars franchise, and proves to be a mediocre movie experience due to poor directing.
Released on May 25, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is rated PG-13 and is currently available for viewing in theaters worldwide.
