This past week, the girl’s tennis team has played two matches on Aug. 29th, winning against Long Beach Poly, and Aug. 30th, losing to Arcadia.
The Mustangs defeated Long Beach Poly 14-4 on Aug. 29th with junior Audrey Vo leading the team with victories in all her sets. In singles, freshman Kiki Daviduk won one set 6-4 and freshman Ella Davis won a set 6-2. In doubles, senior Lindsay Giese and Nicole Weulfing and freshman Haily Huynh and Vo both won two sets 6-2 and 6-0. Senior team Giese and Kendall Lebbin won one set in doubles, and another team junior Olga Nagy and sophomore Kacey Feng won two sets in doubles with 6-3 and 6-0. Nagy and sophomore Hannah Bergin won one set 6-1 and so did team junior Sydney Miller and Vo.
“We use [this] match to see what our competition level is going to be and what pairings and positions work well together,” Lebins said.
Costa fell to Arcadia High School 13-5 on Aug. 30 in an away game. The star players of the game were Weulfing, winning one set 6-2 in singles, as well as doubles team Nagy and Feng winning one set 6-4. Huynh and Vo won two sets 6-2 and 6-1, and Giese and sophomore Peyton Douglas won one set 6-2.
“I think we put out all the effort that we could and we fought until the very end,” Lebins said.
The Mustangs are now 1-1 overall and the team’s next game is on Sept. 5, against Santa Monica at home.
