D Savage relives personal experiences that express his conflicted lifestyle while engaging listeners in an energetic mood through a melodic rap sound in his debut album,“D Phoenix.”
“D Phoenix,” a debut album by local Los Angeles trap artist, D Savage, demands listeners’ attention with an entertaining, explicit approach to his catchy rap-styled songs. The young artist incorporates melodic hooks and meaningful lyrics that represent his upbringing of violence, brotherhood and his pursuit of success. The debut album delivers back-to-back singles that perfectly execute thrilling emotions but lacks an extent of content and diversity.
Dylan Roy McCord, professionally known as D Savage, is a twenty-year old, American rapper from Gardena, California. D Savage began to gain popularity after he released multiple singles which surpassed millions of plays on the streaming platform, Soundcloud. Three years after his first hit single, ‘30 Round Clip,’ D Savage has gained a massive young audience and has made a name for himself within the prospering rap industry.
“D Phoenix” is D Savage’s debut album and dedicated to his deceased friend, Jack Phoenix. The project includes a total of 8 tracks with features from well known artists such as Lil Yachty, Yung Bans and Ty Dolla $ign. The project also incorporates the works of popular platinum producers such as Danny Wolf and 16 Yrs Old.
D Savage artistically creates the dilemmas of his complicated past into masterpieces of sound which entice listeners with catchy lyrics. In the track, “Opera,” D Savage revisits a confusion of emotions between genuine love and phony friendships while presenting it in a melodic, rhythmic atmosphere that hooks listeners.
D Savage presents a unique style of sound combining soft vocals along with rhythmic instrumentals and an aggressive, violent approach embedded in his lyrics. In tracks such as “No Smoke” and “Kame In,” D Savage demonstrates this unique sound while describing accounts of violence.
D Savage collaborates with artists Yung Bans and Lil Yachty who perfectly accompany his style of melodic rap. The three artists all feature on the track, “Never Heard Of You” and execute a relaxing song that describes the highlights of life and its luxuries.
Despite the excellence in the quality of the music, a downside of the project includes the shortage of diversity within the album. With only eight tracks, the long awaited album falls short of being able to present D Savage’s full music potential. Many of the songs were also previously leaked as well, resulting in listeners finding themselves hearing old content.
D Savage’s, “DPhoenix” satisfies with quality content that has listeners repeating melodies in their head. The debut project exhibits catchy, entertaining tracks with dangerous lyrics that relates to the youth of today.
