After a lot of excitiment on Instagram and Twitter, Bay Area artist Larry June released his second album of the year titled “Very Peaceful.”
Larry June’s album calms and relaxes listeners with his smooth voice, and slower paced rap style while still addressing important issues, such as the struggles of growing up in a harsh environment.
Rapper Larry June has been in the rap industry for a while, and has consistently been releasing music since 2015. June has performed at one of the biggest rap festivals in the Bay Area called “Rolling Loud,” which 40,000 people attended. He has also collaborated with other well known artists like Smokepurpp and Post Malone.
A new popular rap style called mumble rap has started to become popular among some rap artists, where what the artist says can’t really be heard or understood, but this style of rapping is thankfully nowhere to be found in this album.
June’s style is different due to his tranquil voice, that sometimes can be monotone, but the combination of that and the slower songs works really well together. His style of rapping is calming and relaxing to listeners.
June allows listeners to learn a little more about himself and his life struggles on a song tittled “Back Rappin.” June talks about having to sell drugs and his struggles with his music career. Not only does the song sound excellent but it talks about June’s real life experiences and struggles, which is welcomed in a time where a lot of rap music doesn’t really talk about anything important.
On the album there are only four featured artists, 03 Greedo, Curen$y, Berner and Lndn Drgs, which adds to the diversity of the songs, but because there are not a lot of features, it doesn’t take away from the main focus of Junes rapping. Three of the four rappers featured are also from California, which adds to the album’s authenticity.
June completely switches up the beats for his last three songs titled “The Red Carpet,” “Mojito Music” and “Organic Poly Seeds.” Instead of the common rap beats that usually rely on drums and percussion instruments, he raps over smooth jazz, which works perfectly for his style of rapping.
Larry June collaborates with another California rapper, 03 Greedo, for “Oranges on Grapes,” a faster song which was not expected from Larry June, though their different styles sound amazing together.
Released on Nov. 29th, “Very Peaceful ” can be purchased on iTunes and streamed on Spotify and Apple Music.
