Mira Costa boys basketball team beat Centennial 63-28 on Jan. 29 with a top performance by sophomore Richard Kick.
“We were able to get out on transition and play good defense, which allowed us to build a big lead,” junior Tyler Antrobious said.
Mira Costa came out with a lot of energy and controlled the first half. Costa’s offense was unstoppable, scoring almost every time they had possession of the ball. The mustangs strong offense was accompanied by a lockdown defense, retrieving many rebounds. Baskets by seniors Andy Orobon, Kayan Mishra, and Lucas Hobbs allowed Costa to finish the first half with a score of 41-24, Costa with the lead. Once Mira Costa’s offense was warmed up they were powerful. Multiple three pointers by senior Carson Carey allowed Costa to finish the third quarter 63-28, Mustangs in the lead. As the half progressed Costa only got stronger and dominated on both offense and defense, finishing the game 80-32, Mustangs with the win.
“In the second half we wanted to build a lead and that lead to our coach being able to put in the seniors. It was a special moment because the kids that usually don’t get to play got to play,” Said senior Carson Carey.
Mira Costa will next face of Redondo on Jan. 31 at Redondo Union High School at 7:30.
“We are hoping the momentum from last game will carry into Thursday and we can beat Redondo on their Senior Night” said junior JD Sanchez.
