The Mustangs girls water polo team has been splashing their way through the rounds of California Interscholatic Federation playoffs.
The Mustangs played against Santiago High School on Wednesday and won their third CIF game this season, 9-8. Due to Costa’s strong defense, they were able to keep Santiago to eight goals and their offense scored 9. By winning this game they advanced to the fourth round of CIF, which is one step closer to winning it all and getting their championship rings.Costa also recently defeated Claremont High School, 13-6 at home on Monday with juniors Celeste Almendariz and Leigh Lyter leading the team with numerous goals.
“My team and I enjoy CIF because the longer we stay in, the more time we have to spend with each other,” junior Leigh Lyter said. “Girls water polo has never won a CIF division title and we just want to make that happen.”
The girls have been putting in a lot of time in the pool and hope to get the results that they’re looking for. Franklin, the trainer, has helped with rehabilition for the team which is helping them get ready for their challenging games that are ahead of them. Their goal is to win CIF and they are trying their best to be prepared for the upcoming rounds. They have spent lots of hours in the pool before and after school in order to get ready for later rounds of playoffs.
“We’ve been eating healthy, and doing lighter workouts to focus on rehabilitation,” senior Camille Lyter said.
