The third addition of the DreamWorks’ series, “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” amazes the audience with vikings, dragons and gorgeous animation, making it an all around great movie.

“How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” a 2019 movie directed by Dean DeBlois, captivates the audience and draws them into the film about a dragon-loving viking. The well rounded film contains captivating scenes, important messages, heartwarming moments and lots of action.

The first “How to Train Your Dragon” movie, released in 2010, features Hiccup, portrayed by Jay Baruchel, who is living on an island called Berk. The people that Hiccup lives with strongly believe in killing dragons and view them as enemies. As son of the chief, Hiccup tries to prove himself as a viking, but soon meets Toothless, a dragon which he later befriends. In the sequel, Hiccup finds that his long lost mom is still alive, but suffers the loss of his dad. Now chief of Berk, it is up to Hiccup to protect his people from danger.

In the newest movie of the series, years after Hiccup creates peace between the vikings and dragons, he spots a new dragon which he calls a Light Fury. With new threats against Berk, Hiccup and Toothless search for a hidden world where the dragons will be safe.

The animation in the film is high quality and made with extensive detail, which brings the movie to life and makes every scene even better. Bright, intense colors make shots of the Northern Lights, for example, even more stunning.

Over the course of the three movies, Hiccup has grown tremendously. The way this transition is portrayed makes the movie all the better. Viewers who have watched the previous movies can see Hiccup’s progression from being just a boy to now a responsible adult.

Lots of action and fighting scenes keep the movie interesting and leave the audience on the edge of their seats and wanting more. There is literally something for everyone, whether it be action or romance, making the movie a great choice for anyone.

Aside from the plentiful action scenes, there are also heartfelt moments throughout the plot of the film. From weddings to goodbyes that may be forever, “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” has everything one could want. The relationships and dynamics between characters makes these scenes even more emotional for the audience.

The film also teaches the audience some valuable lessons. One of the main lessons portrayed in the movie is when Astrid, Hiccup’s girlfriend and then wife, tells him the importance of believing in himself, bringing out lots of emotion in the viewers.

There is also a lot of humor in the film, counteracting the melancholy moments. This provides a nice balance to the movie between funny and sad scenes, which is one of the main reasons “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” is so incredible.

Released on February 22, “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” is rated PG and is available in theaters nationwide.
