On July 16, 1969, The United States became the first country to step foot on the moon. “Apollo 11” recounts the spectacular story with never before seen footage.
“Apollo 11” inspires viewers with its beautiful visuals and in-depth descriptions of the first moon landing. The film features raw footage of the trip, giving the viewer the majestic illusion that they are apart of the mission.
Released on Mar. 9, “Apollo 11” is directed by Todd Douglas Michael. The documentary features footage taken in 1969 during the mission, as well as clips of the astronauts returning home from their trip. Highlighting the heroic strength of the astronauts, Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins are the true stars of the film. The film also uses a soundtrack with instruments that were available in 1969, including a mix of orchestra and electronic synthesizers.
The documentary is strong in its ability to create a connection with the audience. The up close footage makes the viewer feel like they are living through the Apollo 11 mission. Since the footage is laid out in sequential order, the viewer feels like they are watching a story unfold. The clips of Earth and the Moon from outer space adds to the overall intrigue of the film.
Another interesting aspect of the documentary is its emphasis on putting a face behind the event. With clips of the moon landing itself, as well as the dialogue between the astronauts, the viewer is truly able to feel apart of history.
“Apollo 11” is an inspiring documentary that enchants viewers with its honest footage and personal connection with the viewer. The film is exhilarating throughout, and nothing included is trivial. Truly encapsulating American achievement, “Apollo 11” is a film for everyone.
